Can Decentralisation Revolutionise The Internet & Society?
Panel by the Next Generation Internet
How are decentralization technologies affecting the Internet as we know it today, and how may they impact our society in the future? How are large corporations preparing for the uptake of these technologies across different sectors? How can startups and entrepreneurs use these technologies to compete, while protecting the rights of their users?
What is more important? To be a billionaire or to improve the lives of a billion people with your technology?
The NGI initiative, launched by the European Commission, aims to shape the future internet as an interoperable platform ecosystem that embodies the values that Europe holds dear: openness, inclusivity, transparency, privacy, cooperation, and protection of data.
The vision we are advocating for is a future internet as an interoperable platform ecosystem, where players are aware of their societal impact, they pay attention to privacy and data circulation, enable participation and diversity.
It is clear that Europe needs a plan, we must take back our digital sovereignty.
The panel discussed how decentralization can be an enabler for Europe, as it is more effective then centralization in allowing trust and business, and at the same time support creativity and citizen-led initiatives.
“Decentralisation demands new models to fuel innovation. The European Commission sparks new solutions with cascaded funding.”
